Good Days

Posted by on March 24, 2010

When someone asks me how I’m doing I’ll normally answer something along the line of “I have good days and bad days”, even if I feel fine at that particular moment, I’m very aware that if I say I’m fine then people will start to think I’m in denial and not coping. Then if I say I’m not fine then they’ll think I’m having a breakdown and, again, not coping. I have visions of them carting me off to the nuthouse if I say the wrong thing and so I try to remain neutral in what I say to most people. It’s true that I have good days and bad, most of the time I just don’t feel like going into details about which side of the scale I fall on at that particular time.

Maybe I just over think things.

Today was one of the good days. Both of the kids are sick so the house remained fairly calm, Connor slept most of the day, and Declan was content to read and play with his cars instead of spending the day bouncing off the walls.

It felt normal, and normal is all I need right now to consider it a good day :)

I completely know what you mean about having good and bad days and answering questions with that rather than a definition of the day you are having. It is easier.

For me, it also depended on the person asking how open I was to even addressing whether or not I was in a good or bad moment. Actually, I wasn’t out and about to interact much after my loss and didn’t answer the phone unless it was a good moment. That avoided some of the awkwardness.

You are feeling and responding how you feel you need to. That is all you can do. Keep it going! And I hope that the good moments are outnumbering the bad before too long. It’ll happen when it happens.

Take it easy on yourself and do whatever you need to get through.

I had a little girl yesterday say to me “there should have been 7 in our family, but the first sister died as a baby” very matter of factly when telling me all about her family.

They also have a cat that eats your cereal if you get up from the breakfast table.

    I love kids.

I agree with what tootertotz said. It really depends a lot on who you’re talking to and if you can be bothered go into the ins and outs of it all. I hope you have someone you can talk to when it’s bad — and people who can make you laugh when you need it.

We’ll still love you, even when you’re not feeling normal ;)
But in all seriousness, I’m glad you’re having some days like these to counterbalance the others *hug*
